Transforming Lives Everyday

NWAID is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-political organisation focused on providing solutions for the Nigerian women in the Diaspora who find themselves in vulnerable situations.

In Europe, Nigerian women face some of the greatest challenges. They are unable to access their rights and to live free of fear and living a decent life is hampered deep-rooted societal norms and practices. In some situations, women are vulnerable to exploitation and violent acts such as rape, domestic violence, torture, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution and gender mutilation.

Nigerian women who suffer such abuse do not have a place to run to.

Taking into cognizance the importance of good conditions for human development, Nigerian women in the Diaspora have a crucial part to play in ensuring that other Nigerian women enjoy the equal opportunities to exercise the privileges of citizens and residents and to participate in the national life of their country of residence.

Although Nigerian women have made gains in certain fields of human endeavour, problems still persist in many areas and women continue to flee Nigeria in search of green pastures.

Women’s aid organisations have sprung up all over the world to cater for the needs of women of their respective countries. These organisations serve as instruments for meeting the needs of those women who suffer
any form of abuse.

Nigeria does not have such representation in the Diaspora, and there is the need for these issues to be addressed more directly.
